Thread 7 of 9 | | Thread Starter | | | lowster11 | Clients That Don't Pay??I'm sure this is in the wrong category, but I failed to find where it should go...lol.Anyways, I have to ask as it has happened twice now in 3 months. What do you do when a client stiffs you for a design you did, wait, let me rephrase that, What do you do when times get a little hard and you ease up on normally practiced web design (i.e. no deposit) standards to help someone out that totally strings you along only to leave you with a new design?I'm sure it happens a lot to designers, but it makes me even more leery and less trusting of my next client which is a relationship that I do not even like., | 8 replies. Thread 5 of 9 | | Thread Starter | | | Bbouch | Linking EttiqetteI run a website that links to 100+ other websites. The sole purpose of this site is to link to other sites and create a portal for people that are interested in the same topic - Maine History..., , That said, I wonder what people think about the following: when I find a new site to link to, I link to the site, and then email the person (if they have an email on the page or somewhere else on their site) to let them know that I have linked to them, and requesting that they reply if they want the link removed., , I have tried emailing people first and waiting for a response, but find I don't get 100% response and therefore end up not showing links that someone may actually be fine with me linking to., , I have taken my approach with the belief that people are much more likely to respond if they do not want you to link to their site, rather than saying "yeah, its fine with me.", , Does this go completely against all Internet Ettiqette, or amI right in my assumption that this has prob... | 7 replies. Thread 3 of 9 | | Thread Starter | | | Mark D. | e-mail with existing web siteI currently have a web site, but I do not have an e-mail address for that domain name., , I was told to find a company that could handle the mx record. , , I'm a novice at this, so I feel lost! | 1 Reply: | mprestwood | Don't feel lost. First off, whoever is hosting your website should have taken care of that for you. Unless your web site is hosted with one of those free cheapy hosting plans. If so, get a real hosting plan. Otherwise, you might want to contact them and have them set it up. , , Here is some info to help:, Each domain has a zone file associated with it at whereever the DNS server is located. Thread 2 of 9 | | Thread Starter | | | Marv | Mail setupI'm confused about POP3 mail accounts. I've read what they are & how to set one up, but don't understand WHY I'd want to set one up. I have mail at work and an AOL acct at home & my Prestwood account forwards me@mydomain.com to one or the other per my instructions. What does setting up a POP3 account do for me that I don't already have? The only thing I KNOW of that I don't have is the ability to change my outgoing email address on the fly. What I mean is when I send something from either work (outlook) or home (aol), I'd like to be able to SOMETIMES force the return address to be me@mydomain.com instead of me@work.com or me@aol.com. That sounds like a browser issue tho'. Can anyone enlighten me? Thx. | 2 replies. Last post: | marvinsolberg | Thanks Mike, I'll give it a whirl. |

Thread 1 of 9 | | Thread Starter | | | tjoppru | Tracking referalsI am running a fundraising site in which boy scouts sell natural food stuffs. They are assigned an ID which the customer has to use to place an order online. We would like the scout to be able to send out an HTML email from the site after registering with a link to the catalog that contains his ID number so when they place an order the scout that referred them gets the credit. Sort of like the way an affiliate program works. If anybody has seen anything like this I would appreciate letting me know about it. Or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks in advance. | 1 Reply: | Gontornu | I think I understand what you are trying to do, but there are many questions:, , The scount is sending the email, and the cust is entering the code at the web site? , , Is there are database on the web site?, , Can all the customers correctly receive HTML email?, , It would help if I could see what you have so far., , Christian, , , , ------------------, Nielsen Technical Services, www.nielsentech.com, Search Engine Optimization, Internet Consult... |
