New Quote Post Feature!
Now you can quote a particular thread post as part of your reply. Check out the new Quote option that is part of every post. CoolI also cleaned up the thread view so that it looks a bit cleaner and contains more white space. Each post of a thread is now separated from the other replies and the thread starter always gets a white background (the rest alternate between light gray and lighter gray). Enjoy!

New Message Board Look
Hi all,This weekend I deployed a new message board look and I'm interested in your thoughts.
  • New Overview main page - gives easy access to most popular data (boards, recent threads, and no reply threads).,
  • No groups on left menu - the left side menu was getting too complex so I removed the links to groups in favor of a list on the overview page. Now you don't have to scroll down to go to your favorite board.,
  • All Topics (the old main page) is now an option in the left side menu.,
  • Updated text.
  • Let me know what you think!

I really like the new color changes. At least I think they're new. I like the blue and green. Pretty nice. The use  of gray seems to be up too. That's a good thing.

    xml, soap forum
I am just starting to learn xml in earnest. At this point I know just enough to be dangerous. Is it possible to add xml and soap forums here at Prestwood? If not, is there another topic these questions should be posted in?

Hi Mary, Funny you should mention dedicated servers. Yesterday, Sunday, we completed our move to a dedicated server so now the website should be much more enjoyable to use. I was just getting ready to start a new thread and mention that. We are still optimizing the new server but we should be stable by the weekend. (Stable meaning we are done optimizing and securing.)

    Drums...!
Whilst looking for inspiration for a current Paradox project I noticed that our mentor Mike A Prestwood has "drums" listed as an interest., I assume he doesn't mean the 45 gallon variety so can I tempt him into cyber print by saying that even in the UK we are not that out on a limb as amongst others I own a Radio King snare, I am intrigued - tell me more Mr Prestwood !

New 'All Groups' Random Thread Link
Today I added a "Random MB Thread" to the main message board menu. This link displays a random message board thread from "all threads". Sometimes I like to review old threads just to keep my knowledge up. During this review process, I sometimes add to the threads, but it's mainly a study tool for me. This compliments our group message board "Random MB Thread" link we added a few months ago. Now you can display a random thread from all groups or from the group you're within. To browse all threads randomly, go to the main message board overview page and select "Random MB Thread":

    programming with QBE results
Hi - My wife and I have taken over Administration of a large Amateur Theatre company in London - the only salaried position (as a jobshare).  We have inherited "interesting" old procedures and equipment, including a PC running Windows 98 and a Paradox-based Box Office system called Databox.  It is my wish to develop better-looking sheets of daily bookings for the Box Office volunteer staff to use.  I have managed so far to create QBEs that select the desired data, but seat numbers have been defined as alphanumeric (by the Databox people, so I can't change the definition), with the result that they are sorted thus:26, 27, 3, 33, 34, 4, instead of 3, 4, 26, 27, 33, 34.  I have 25 years' experience of programming, so I can cope with adding zeroes on the left and taking a three-character right substring, but the help in Paradox 7 doesn't give me enough idea as to how/where to insert this code so as to produce the required query results.I should be grateful for specific ...

Jonathan,I'm not sure how the SQL will turn out for you with the new BDE, so as an alternative,  do you have access to permanently change the seat numbers in the Databox tables?  That is, run a tCursor scan loop using the format() and string() function to change "3" to "003", etc.?  That would allow you to use the QBE queries you've already developed.  Show me the table structure and a sample of the data and I'd be happy to wr...

    New Memeber introduction
Hello, My name is Patrick. I have been programming with Paradox for about 20 years. I have built three major databases and one web portal using Paradox 9. Currently, I am enrolled in college to get my BSIT/SE degree. I figure that with my limited experience and absolute true love of programming, I need to get moving on turning a hobby into a paying job. I look forward to contributing to this forum and learning from the experts. One side note, I have talking with Tony in the past,  and he helped understand the web server function of Paradox.

Welcome Patrick! It's good to see new members signing up, and I can assure you that you've come to the right place. All of the Prestwood moderators work very hard to keep all information current and relevant. Like you, I started off building a couple of beefy databases with Paradox, and eventually ended up porting them out to the Web using the Paradox web server. It'll be fun to hear from you and see where others take things. Welcome! Al

    New Message Board Software
Hi all, I spent today updating our message board software. Now you can reply to the middle of a thread. Some message board software use this approach and some use our old approach. I like this new approach because when you reply to a thread it "feels" like you are replying to the whole thread and someone who posted before you could get hurt feelings because they think you are talking about them. I also enhanced some of the display and formatting. Enjoy!

Hi all, This morning I coded a bit on the search capabilities for these message boards. I applied the same search capabilities for KB posts for MB posts. You can now...
  • search by an exact phrase, all words, or any words
  • seach replies correctly. Fixed a bug where reply searches didn't always include replies.
  • Defaults to a wider search that now includes the post body text.
  • Simplified look and feel too.

    Hello PRestwood
Hello all out in Prestwood landMy name is Daniel Kram. I live in Milwaukee, WI, but if you Googled my name, you would know where I live, so I just saved you some time. (grin)I am a developer in over 10 computer languages with about 20 (ugh) years of experience. Go ahead, you can guess my age now. My primary languages are Delphi (aka Pascal), HTML, XML (if you call it a language cough), and coming up on C# and .Net architecture/framework. I also use Dreamweaver as well as Visual Studio, but I think I am leaning more towards Dreamweaver. I have also done about 3 years of Java, but none lately. Lots of SQL and just now, I am beginning to refactor a MySQL Delphi project to ElevateDB., , I manage a few web sites, none too fancy or anything, but hey, they get the job done.I would like to become an active member here in any area I can be of help.Hope to talk to you soon - well not everyone all at once...

Hi,, , Yes I have a gmail account - I don't think you have to be invited to get one. Just go to google.com, click on "more", scroll down to Gmail. I entered my cell phone # and they instantly text'ed me a code to enter for the account. , , OR maybe you were saying if you don't have a cell phone you can get an account by invitation instead? If that's the case, I can invite you. Just didn't know about that feature. , ~ Vicki

I manage a small network for the calibration system in the Canadian Forces.  I have been running this database since 1994 and it's still going strong.  I am now moving from paradox 9 to paradox 12.  We use this program to track approximatly 112,000 general purpose instruments and all the histories for that instrument.  I use this site to mainly browse around.
