Limit Records in a Table

Limit Records in a Table in Paradox Tables topic (part of our Corel Paradox / ObjectPAL Coding group).

Quick Search: Records   Limit Records   Limit Records Table

I have built a program for a company - They want to try it to see if they like it. I would like code or method to limit the main customer table to 10 entries. If they buy it I would then give a access code to release the table to unlimited enteries. How is the best way to handle this?
Thanks!

When your program starts, and when it exits, (hopefully you have a script that starts your application) have a tcursor check the number of records in that table.

If more than 10, delete down to 10 records in the table.

Also, hopefully you have a form for entering records into the table.

On form close you could test for number of records and delete everything over 10 records.

Some would probably say trap for insertrecord (new record) and not allow more than 10 records.

I say let them enter 200 records if they wish so they can see how the program works.

Just let them know ahead of time that everything over 10 records will be automatically deleted until they purchase.

Still, if you have a startup script that MUST be run before your application will run, the script is the best way to control this, I think.

You can easily control a form opening or not.

Write an environment variable and value using chr() values for each.

In your main form's init() event, test to see if the environment value is correct. If not,

close()
