Manipulating 'Date' type fields in Paradox
I have a table that records the launch date of ships. As the exact launch dates of historical sailing ships is not always known, I am obliged to use three separate fields for day, month and year because the 'date' type field demands all three elements. Naturally I would prefer to use a single date type field. Is there a way to add code to the date field on either the table or form that will allow the date field to accept a null value for either the day and/or month elements? (the year is always known).  I have seen this achieved in genealogy software but I believe it to be a Delphi based program. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you think of dates closer to the current date as less or newer than older dates the default sort of the primary key is understandable.  If you use the sort method or have the date field in a secondary key you can select the sort order to be in the older to newer date order.

RE: Manipulating 'Date' type fields in Paradox
Apologies for the delay.  Had some laptop problems to resolve., Regarding AL's question, I don't really have a problem. I just thought there may be an easier way of achieving the end result. What I currently do works OK.Steve.  On a scale of 0 to 10, my programming skills rate about <=3 (and too old to want to learn).  Although I can see that your suggestion is achievable, it rates as comparable to what I already do in terms of manipulation data.Best to leave well alone, but thank you all for your input.Mike,

RE: Paradox X4 and Vista
, With respect to Mike's suggestion of using Paradox V9.Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but having spent $450 (unnecessarily as it turns out) to buy a version that I was lead to believe (by non-other than Corel), resolved the problems of the previous version, entitles me to a little whinge, or even $450 worth of whinge.I reiterate:  The least I can expect is a product that is of merchantable quality and fit for purpose!Corel, take note!!!,
